Denton— The Relief Society of the Denton Texas Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, recently donated nearly 800 ‘Boredom Busters’ to alleviate the difficult mental boredom that is a direct result of the recent Covid-19 quarantine in local nursing homes.

The Denton Texas Stake Relief Society spent a month-long drive to collect items such as crossword puzzle books, adult coloring books, crayons, markers, lotion, treats, and more, ‘to hopefully put a smile on some of the sweet faces that have been isolated for too long.’

When asked why so many women participated, Holly Babcock, organizer of the event, responded, “Our Relief Society motto is ‘Charity Never Faileth,’ and so, we feel inspired to serve others around us, not only to people we know but those within our community.”

The Relief Society, founded in 1842, is one of the oldest and largest women’s organizations in the world with more than seven million members in over 188 countries and territories.

Mindy Fuller, a volunteer who received the women’s donations, described the generosity she witnessed, “Each gift was thoughtful and kind. One woman wrote handwritten letters.”. When describing the overall feeling of the women, she continued, “They were all so excited and willing to be doing good.”

Although some of the visitation restrictions have been eased, there is still a marked degree of inherent loneliness in care centers that will continue in the coming months.

Hopefully, this will bring a bit of cheer to individuals and can give the residents some fun prizes for “Doorway Bingo” and other games the Activity Director creates.

Gratitude goes to Holly Babcock, 1st Counselor in the Denton Texas Stake Relief Society, for organizing this opportunity to serve the community.
