Ecclesiastical Leaders Invited to Unite in Friendship for the Common Good
On Sunday, October 25, 2020, Calvin Griffin, president of the Denton Texas Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints issued a heartfelt invitation to fellow ecclesiastical leaders in the Denton, Decatur, and Gainsville area:
“In response to the current conditions in our society and in our communities, I have felt a very strong impression and desire to reach out to you as fellow ecclesiastical leaders in this area. In the midst of a pandemic, social upheaval, racial divide, political tension, unemployment, anxiety, depression, stress, as well as individual and family concerns for their future, I extend this personal invitation requesting your friendship, individually and organizationally which is vital during these times.
“This friendship will allow us to be effective in accomplishing many great and wonderful things. Our faith teaches us to love one another and be united in doing good to improve the lives of those in our community. There is no time like today to extend this hand of friendship to one another. We are much more than just the name of the organizations, congregations, or churches that we represent. We are devoted to the God who gave us life. He desires and requires us to bless the lives of humanity irrespective of race, creed, color, nationality, gender, and political or religious affiliation.
I know that our organizations have individually engaged in community service opportunities over the years. There is so much more that we can accomplish together. By doing so we can touch lives by feeding the hungry, comforting the lonely, visiting the sick and afflicted, performing acts of kindness, and working together to better the community in which we live.”
