Wayne Bagan is the new bishop of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Flower Mound 3rd Ward, a local congregation of over 450 members.
Bagan also serves as the director of an emerging transportation fleet company and is a former a geologist and geophysicist in the oil industry. Since there is no paid ministry in the Church of Jesus Christ, Bagan will serve in this new position as bishop simultaneously.
Members of congregations in the Church – from nursery workers, to teachers and youth leaders, to bishops – volunteer their time to serve in a church position while balancing their professional, personal, and family responsibilities.
A bishop’s responsibilities include overseeing the administrative, spiritual and temporal needs of their congregation and often serve for a period of five-to-seven years.
“Jesus Christ is the Good Shepherd of our Flower Mound 3rd ward family, not me,” said Bagan. “I’m called to serve with a wonderful and loving congregation who already know how to love, to edify, to give comfort, and to serve each other within our neighborhoods and blessed community!”
Bagan and his high school sweetheart Betty were baptized in the Church of Jesus Christ soon after their wedding and completion of Bagan’s US Army basic training in 1974.
“We met in a car accident in front of our high school. I was skipping school that day and ran into the back of Betty’s old Thunderbird!”
Soon after joining the Church, Bagan continued his military career in Germany. He and Betty moved from Midland to Lewisville, Texas in 1991 and later built a home in Flower Mound three years later, where they still reside today. Married for 48 years, the Bagans have four grown children – two sons and two daughters. They are also grandparents to five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Brennan McKinlay, a corporate strategist for Toyota, and Ali Fisher, a business development manager for Parkway Construction, were called as counselors to assist Bishop Bagan with his new position.
McKinlay, who served a two-year church mission in Japan, and wife Alison have five children.
“I particularly look forward to the chance I will have to minister to individuals, and to share my testimony of Jesus Christ and what He can do to help us weather the challenges of life,” said McKinlay, Flower Mound 3rd ward first counselor.
Fisher has lived in Flower Mound for four years with wife Carrie, who serves on the PTA for Timber Creek Elementary School. They have three children.
Visitors are welcome to attend the Flower Mound 3rd ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, one of four Flower Mound congregations. This congregation meets at 9 a.m. every Sunday in the meeting house, 1100 Stapleton Lane in Flower Mound.
