Volunteers gathered Saturday for a Juneteenth activity to help restore names at a historic black cemetery.

Carma Miller, a volunteer with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, said the work carries special significance given that so much of African American family history has been lost or fragmented through generations.

“Now people will have a searchable way to find their ancestry,” Miller said. “It will help bring our people back together.”

Throughout the day, volunteers shared stories about family history while others learned how to use genealogy tools and online databases like the Find a Grave app, a partner of FamilySearch.
