Meal Pack Unites Community on 9/11 Day

Over 1,000 Volunteers Pack 437,000 Meals for North Texas Food Bank

Garland, TX—September 11, 2024*—In a heartfelt demonstration of unity and service, more than 1,000 volunteers gathered to participate in the 9/11 Day Meal Pack event, packing an impressive 437,000+ meals for the North Texas Food Bank (NTFB). This event, held at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland, Texas, exemplified the spirit of togetherness and mutual support that emerged from the events of September 11, 2001.

JustServe.org, a coalition partner with 9/11 Day, played a crucial role in connecting volunteers to the event and ensuring its success. Their involvement facilitated the coordination of support staff and helped streamlined the process, making the large-scale packing event both efficient and impactful.

Nicolette Brewer, 911Day Meal Pack Event Manager for North Texas, expressed her appreciation to the volunteers, highlighting the significance of their efforts. “It’s a great way to represent what 9/11 brought to America—the togetherness and everyone helping each other out,” Brewer said.

The meals prepared during today’s event will provide crucial support to the North Texas Food Bank, which serves one of the most food-insecure areas in the United States. Dallas County, where the Meal Pack was held, ranks fourth in the nation for the highest rate of food-insecure children. This year’s meal pack has far exceeded last year’s totals, offering substantial assistance to local families in need. These contributions will have a lasting impact on families and individuals in need across North Texas.

The event was organized into two shifts, morning and afternoon, with volunteers working diligently to assemble the meals. In addition to the over 1,000 volunteers, 80 support staff positions were filled, thanks to the collaboration with JustServe.org. These positions included table captains, runners, heavy lifters, registration staff, and hospitality roles.

This year’s meal pack is a testament to the enduring legacy of 9/11 Day, emphasizing the importance of community service and collective action. By coming together to support those in need, volunteers have honored the memory of September 11 and reinforced the values of compassion and solidarity.
