Pastor’s Place: Come Unto Christ Through Service

Jon Cannon, Lewisville Stake President, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

In the New Testament, we find the account of two sisters and a brother who clearly have a close association with the Savior. The members of this family love the Savior. We know that they believe in Him and have full faith and trust in Him. And, we know that the Savior loves them deeply and cares for them. I’m speaking of Mary, Martha, and Lazarus.

These family members have the privilege of welcoming the Savior into their home. He dines with them and they learn at his feet. He teaches them important lessons related to priorities (Luke 10:38-40). They turn to Him with absolute faith as they experience sickness and death within their families. As they turn to Him, they are the recipients of His love and witness one of His greatest miracles (John 11:1-44).

Christmas can be a season of joy and glad tidings. Mary, Martha, and Lazarus sought to be close to the Savior and learned first-hand why we have reason to rejoice and to praise God for the gift of His son. Jesus likewise invites each of us to “come unto [Him]” (Matthew 11:28-30).
