Prosper JustServe Volunteers Address Food Insecurity and Foster Care Needs

Prosper, TX – A group of women gathered to serve the ongoing needs of two local nonprofits focused on children in surrounding communities, LovePacs PCG and CASA of Collin County. These women donated fabric and sewed 30 pillowcases for foster care children while collecting nearly 100 boxes of cereal to share with families experiencing food insecurity.

CASA will distribute the pillowcases to foster care children, who may often be moving from house to house and have no luggage and few belongings. The pillowcases can help hold their possessions when moving and comfort them during a trying time.

Wendy Osborn, who recently moved to North Texas from South Africa via Georgia, shared her feelings about serving together: “It is always wonderful to be able to share talents while serving our Heavenly Father’s children who are in need. It warms my soul.”

Meanwhile, the Walnut Grove High School tennis team, inspired by the need to restock some of the shelves for LovePacs PCG, stepped up. They shopped for and donated 31 cereal boxes and 868 packets of oatmeal, a contribution that will help feed hungry children over upcoming school breaks when federally assisted school meals are not available.

“When we were planning our activity, we knew that we wanted to serve those right here in our community, said Gina Hema, JustServe volunteer. “Both CASA and Lovepacs are great organizations to work with and have a big impact on the lives of kids in Prosper and the surrounding communities.”

Service, when done together, fosters a spirit of community. These two groups of JustServe volunteers, united by their shared purpose, made a great team in providing relief to their neighbors!
