The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Prosper hosted their annual Nativity reenactment on December 10 in their church building. This annual event is typically hosted outside in a drive-thru event at Frontier Park, but was moved inside due to weather.

The scene was recreated every twenty minutes from 6-8 pm, with groups gathering together to watch the scene. A total of approximately thirty actors reenacted Jesus’ birth in the stable, being greeted by shepherds, gifts presented by Wise Men, and the angel choir singing at the end. The scene concluded with a sing-along with guests. Hosts in costume greeted the guests, guided them through the church, and offered refreshments at the end of the event.

Kim Davidson attended the event with her child. “I wanted to come out and see a living Nativity with my daughter, as she has never seen one,” Davidson said. “It has been a very long time since I have seen one, honestly. I enjoyed it, it was a really great program. I felt that it was a personal, intimate experience and that the church did a great job presenting the birth of Jesus.”

Kate Tueller and her family attended the event. “I saw the event on my Facebook and I felt that it was really important to show my children what Christmas is really about. There is a lot of flashiness all around us, especially in this season. This event was quiet and beautiful. I felt it was especially important to bring my children.”

“I am impressed by the hours of labor that surely went into this event,” Tueller said. “To have this event and offer it for free? That is incredible.”

“This event really grounds this holiday season, in a way that most events do not,” Tueller said. “This is a way to remember what the season really is about. It was reverent in a way that I did not expect. It was so beautiful and I look forward to being able to invite friends next year.”

Seven year old Annabelle did not know what to expect at the event. “I know that Christmas is Jesus’ birthday,” Annabelle said. “I did not know that so many people came to see him. I like that they used kids at the end. Some kids like to sing in front of people. I also liked that cookies were at the end. Sometimes kids get hungry.”

The Prosper Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints offers this Nativity experience yearly, normally on the second Saturday of the month. It is either hosted at Frontier Park or in the church building, depending on weather. More information may be found on their church website.
