BURLESON, Texas — A major piece of the Fort Worth Texas Temple was lifted into place Friday as workers secured the capstone to the single-story 30,000-square-foot edifice located in Burleson, Texas.

The capstone was set into place on the Fort Worth Temple on Friday, May 23, 2025.

President Russell M. Nelson, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, announced the temple at the Church’s General Conference in October 2021, and the groundbreaking ceremony was held Oct. 28, 2023, with Elder Jose L. Alonso, General Authority Seventy, delivering the dedicatory prayer.

The temple, along with a meetinghouse, is on a 9.37-acre parcel of land situated to the north of Southwest Hulen Street and Greenridge Drive in Burleson.

The capstone was set into place on the Fort Worth Temple on Friday, May 23, 2025.

Crews lifted the capstone twice: first, to mark the spot where it would be permanently affixed, and second, and after the prep work was completed, it was lifted back up and secured into place.

Five operating temples in Texas are located in Dallas, Houston, Lubbock, McAllen and San Antonio. In addition to Fort Worth, there are plans to build temples in the cities of Austin and Fairview.

Latter-day Saints consider temples the “house of the Lord” and the most sacred places of worship on earth. Temples differ from the Church’s meetinghouses (chapels). All are welcome to attend Sunday worship services and other weekday activities at local meetinghouses.

The primary purpose of temples, however, is for faithful members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to participate in sacred ceremonies, such as marriages, which unite families forever, and proxy baptisms on behalf of deceased ancestors who did not have the opportunity for baptism while living.
