Tana Giberson is a remarkable young woman whose life is a testament to resilience, the power of community, and the value of fostering personal growth. A dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Tana’s life is enriched by her relationships with family, friends, and community organizations that support her in reaching her full potential. Throughout her life, Tana has made meaningful contributions to the world around her, while receiving invaluable support and love in return.

From a young age, Tana has been fortunate to have parents who not only love and support her but also encourage her to embrace every opportunity for growth. One of the most formative experiences of Tana’s high school years was her involvement with the Best Buddies program. Through this organization, Tana formed lasting friendships with her peers and became known for her ability to complete tasks efficiently and with care. Best Buddies became more than just a program; it was a space where Tana thrived, learned, and built connections with others.

Inspired by her mother’s advice to “grow where you are planted” and “reach the best of your potential,” Tana’s family has continuously encouraged her to step outside her comfort zone and explore new opportunities.

One of the organizations that has played a significant role in Tana’s life is SNAP (Special Needs Assistance Partners). This community group is dedicated to enriching the lives of individuals with special needs, providing them with resources, training, and programs to help them grow both socially and professionally. Mary Bullard from SNAP shares, “North Texas SNAP loves having Tana as a member! She has been part of our organization since 2014. Tana is a very active member and participates in Jobs & Life Skills Club, Ambassadors Club, Girls Night Out, Book Lovers Club as well as our dances & parties.” She continues, “Tana also took part in the technology and cooking classes which were made possible through the generous grant received from the Light the World Giving Machine.”

Tana loves to interact with members, parents, board members, and volunteers. She’s known for introducing herself to anyone new, and for sharing her hobbies with enthusiasm. During a Girls Night Out Hobby Night, she brought cookie samples and her recipe to share with friends. Her creativity was also on full display at SNAP’s “Dinner & A Show” event, where she showcased three of her handmade pottery creations: a coil pot, a pumpkin, and a tree. “Her sense of humor and genuine care of other members’ needs shines through during the programs and social events she attends,” says Mary. “We are proud to have Tana representing North Texas SNAP in the community!”

Tana is blessed with a unique and high functioning brain, with aspects that set her apart, while not showing typical behaviors that would result in a special needs or any other typical diagnosis – the accepted descriptor is neurodivergent. Tana’s journey hasn’t always been smooth, and she acknowledges the challenges that exist for neurodivergent adults and that opportunities were limited. However, through SNAP and her own determination, she has built a meaningful life full of connection and purpose.

One of Tana’s proudest milestones came when she began working at Market Street, a local grocery store. She had previously worked at Tinseltown Grapevine, but sought different opportunities. With encouragement and support, she transitioned into a role at Market Street, starting as a sacker and eventually becoming a cashier. Nearly five years later, Tana continues to brighten customers’ days with her kindness and familiarity, taking pride in knowing their names and making them feel welcome.

Beyond work, Tana engages in activities that feed her spirit. She has kept a journal since 2008, documenting her thoughts, memories, and personal reflections. Christine Gottfredson, a friend of Tana, shares, “For my birthday, she gave me a little book of her personal thoughts and poems. It was so touching to understand her more. Tana is one of the most thoughtful people. She remembers little things and she’s very organized, keeping notes and journals. Tana has a lovely testimony of Jesus Christ and carries deep feelings that she expresses in her journaling. She is a strong and amazing person.”

In addition to journaling, Tana has a deep love for pottery and creative arts. Her compassion for others is also seen in her church community, where she bonds closely with a young girl in the primary program, offering regular support. She also treasures attending events like the “Night to Shine” prom organized by the Tim Tebow Foundation. “It is a prom experience for people with disabilities and doesn’t cost anything,” Tana explained. “I liked all of it.”

Tana’s strength, faith, and willingness to grow continue to guide her journey. “I am a child of God, and He has a plan for me,” she often says, reflecting the deep spiritual foundation that gives her purpose and peace. Whether she’s building friendships, serving others, or learning new skills, Tana embraces every chapter with determination.

Her story underscores the importance of supportive programs like SNAP and the difference that encouragement, faith, and community can make in the life of someone striving to reach their full potential. Tana’s life is a beautiful example of love, resilience, and the power of showing up with a full heart.

As she continues forward, Tana Giberson remains a bright light to those around her — a true ambassador of compassion, creativity, and courage.
