Twenty-two teachers from Coppell ISD were chosen for the Golden
Apple, an award that recognizes excellence in education and honors teachers who demonstrate a passion for teaching. This recognition was given on behalf of the Carrollton Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at a dinner on Thursday, April 4, 2019, at the Church’s building in Coppell.
“We are fortunate to live is such a great community with excellent teachers,” said Tiffany Brown, the local public affairs director for the Church. “We were thrilled to honor these teachers for the positive impact they make in the lives of so many children.”
The teachers were selected from Town Center and Denton Creek Elementary. This is the first year the Carrollton Texas congregation gave out this award but plans to continue this tradition and include more schools in the district. The Golden Apple Award is a well-known tradition in other congregations of the Church.
The following teachers were selected from Town Center Elementary and Denton Creek Elementary respectively: Kate Seifert, Kelly Burks, Morgan Peccarelli, Beth Parker, Julie McCullough, Heather Judd, Lorri Brehm, Lauren Torti, Rachel Lim, Megan McGraw, Patrick Miller, Marie Sork, Ashlin Bowman, and Courtney Rice and from Denton Creek Elementary:
Yolanda Velasquez, Cole Larned, Autumn Field, Claire Jeffers, Lori Spivey, Lauren Shepherd, Lindsey Daneshmand and Sharon Chen.
At the dinner, Jeff Knowlton, the first counselor in the Carrollton Texas Stake presidency for the Church spoke about the impact good teachers had on him as a child and the importance of good teaching. Knowlton invited the students to share a few thoughts about their teachers and participate in handing each teacher their award.
The teachers were given a certificate and a crystal apple. There are approximately more than 200 children from the Church who attend schools in the Coppell ISD. The desire to commence this recognition comes from the local congregation’s interest in celebrating Coppell’s extraordinary educators and schools that directly impact Church members and their families.
