Local non-profit helps communities achieve long-term stability and self-sufficiency

Community Life Help program launches in the Southwest, empowering people with personal finance, emotional well-being, ESL, and family history skills.

DALLAS, TX – Community Life Help, a community outreach organization of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has formed a first-of-its-kind outreach program that provides a variety of free classes centered on self-reliance skills. Each course focuses on one of four topics: learning English, personal finances, building emotional resilience, and family history.

Community Life Help classes are faith-based, with options to attend both online or in-person at a local meetinghouse of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A facilitator leads group discussions in an environment of fellowship and faith.

“The purpose of this program is to strengthen people to live happier, more stable lives,” said Mark Gottfredson, Area Seventy in the North America Southwest Area for the Church of Jesus Christ. “These classes help people to achieve their goals and gain transformational skills to deal with life and its challenges.”

Community Life Help aims to help individuals and families develop strong financial literacy, learn mental health skills centered around emotional resilience, receive language tutoring for ESL learners, and discover their family stories.

Personal Finance: Create a financial plan and learn about budgeting, eliminating debt, protecting against economic hardship, and saving for the future.

Emotional Resilience: Learn to manage stress and anxiety, understand sadness and depression, overcome anger and addiction, and build healthy relationships with others.

English Connect: Conversational English classes for beginning and intermediate English. Learn the fundamentals of English in small groups using written and online support resources.

Family History: Research personal ancestry, find family members, create a family tree, and learn how to use FamilySearch.org.

Classes kick off in late January 2023 across Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, and North Texas and are ongoing throughout the year. More information, class times and locations, and registration are found at CommunityLifeHelp.org
