Mayor Declares ‘Light the World’ Giving Day

As Mckinney Mayor George Fuller unveiled the Texas Giving Machine arrival in his city, he proclaimed Dec. 19 as “Light the World Texas Giving Machines Day.” Read full proclamation below:

Proclamation
WHEREAS, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was established in 1830 in
Fayette, New York, it has grown from humble beginnings into a global community of 17 million believers united in following Jesus Christ, including multiple congregations thriving in McKinney, Texas; and
WHEREAS, The Church practices the Biblical example of Jesus Christ, who said in the book
of Matthew, chapter 22, verses 37-39:
“Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all they soul, and with all thy mind.
This is the first and great commandment.
And the second is like unto it,
Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.”
WHEREAS, The Church encourages all people to “let your light shine as you love the people around you” and during the Christmas season especially; and
WHEREAS, from December 19 to January 1, McKinney will join the Texas cities of Houston
and San Antonio, with the special opportunity to participate in the Light the World Texas Giving Machines event; and
WHEREAS, Giving Machines are vending machines of kindness that allow you to donate to a
variety of worthy
causes
and assist our most vulnerable neighbors. The
distinctive red Giving Machines will be open 24 hours a day 7 days a week including the Christmas and New Year holidays; and
WHEREAS, donations to the Giving Machines will support Samaritan Inn and Hugs Café in McKinney, and contribute to a variety of national and international charities.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE C. FULLER, BY THE POWER VESTED IN ME AS MAYOR OF THE CITY OF MCKINNEY, TEXAS, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE DAY OF TUESDAY, DECEMBER 19, 2023, AS LIGHT THE WORLD
TEXAS GIVING MACHINES DAY
IN MCKINNEY, TEXAS, EXPRESSING SINCERE APPRECATION TO THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS FOR ITS SERVICE AND LOVE IN OUR COMMUNITY, AND ENCOURAGING ALL RESIDENTS TO VISIT THE SQUARE IN DOWNTOWN MCKINNEY AND PARTICIPATE IN THE LIGHT THE WORLD TEXAS GIVING MACHINES EVENT.
